Convenor: Alan Longley
The Astronomy Group meets on the second Thursday of each month from 10am to 12pm at the Bowling Club in Littleborough.
There is generally a theme for each meeting. For example, at the March meeting the subject was “the intriguing story of how the rules that drive the universe were discovered.
The laws of thermodynamics were developed by brilliant minds like Carnot, Clausius and Boltzmann to answer the question: what exactly is energy? These strange set of laws link together everything from engines to humans to stars. It turns out that energy, so critical to daily existence, actually helps us to make sense of the universe.” (extract from the group page on the u3a website).
