Further on we arrived at the site of Summit brickworks and passing over the canal bridge and past Summit Inn, we walked down Todmorden road to Temple lane where the 'New' Temple methodist chapel opened in 1872 and closed in 1961, before being demolished.
Then on to Calderbrook road were we stopped at St James church in Calderbrook which was opened in 1865 and is the burial place of Enid Stacey.
From there we walked down to Handle Hall which over the years has served as the home of Richard Dearden, then Lord of the Manor of Rochdale, a public house called the Queen Anne, and a slaughterhouse. On our return to the starting place we passed through Hare Hill park stopping at the massive Redwood tree in the Southern most corner.
