Today's walk took us through Hare Hill Park, past Wellington Lodge and the Coach House, through the station underpass and onto the canal towpath to Ealees and Durn.

Reaching the A58 we passed the Rake inn and followed the public footpath to Windy Bank, said to be one of the oldest and most picturesque houses in Littleborough. (by Captain Fishwick in 1889) it holds a commanding position near the ancient pack horse road leading over Blackstone Edge.

First mentioned in 1335, in 1554 Richard Lyghtollers lived at Wyndebanke, and soon after 1623 the property went to John Butterworth who rebuilt the house, his initials are carved on a stone over the door I.B. 1635.
